In the correct hands, injections can work wonders for your appearance!

Considered to be one of the safest and most effective anti-aging procedures in the world, botulinum toxin or neuromodulators can significantly soften some of the most common signs of aging, also known as expression lines.

Neuromodulators or muscle relaxants such as BOTOX®, Dysport® and XEOMIN® block nerve impulses, which relax the muscles in our faces that cause the development of crow’s feet, laugh lines, frown lines and more, creating a more youthful and smoother appearance. As an injectable, these agents can be delivered in one quick treatment with results that can last for multiple months. Decades of use by millions of patients around the world and multiple clinical trials have shown that these agents are safe and reliable for long-term, and repeated use.

Your Consultation

Your treatment needs to be performed with skill and artistry to create the most natural, long-lasting and the rejuvenated results you desire. That’s why a comprehensive consultation is essential for planning the right treatment. During your consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, your medical history for the presence of any contraindications, the risks and benefits of the procedure, differences in product choices, examine before and after photos, and answer any questions you might have about the procedure.

The Procedure

The procedure will be quick, simple, and relatively painless; taking less than a 15 minutes to complete with no anesthesia is required. Patients are usually able to go back to work immediately afterward. Typically injected into areas like around the eyes, forehead, and mouth to specifically target expression areas. Thick neck bands, jaw muscles, lip lines, marionette lines and a gummy smile can also be treated.

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport require about two weeks to reach their maximum effect, they lasts approximately three months. In many cases injections can be performed during the same visit as other procedures, like an injection of hyaluronic acid filler.

The Recovery

Some patients may experience mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites, but in general, it does not require any downtime or recovery period. Depending on the area, or areas, injected, you may not exercise immediately after treatment. It is important not to massage or rub the injection sites, because there is a risk the injections will affect be surrounding muscles. That could lead to temporary unsatisfactory results, including droopy eyelids. Complications are rare, but bruising, soreness and swelling may occur.

What’s the Difference?

All products share the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin A and although similar, the products are not the same.

BOTOX: Approved in 2002 by the FDA, BOTOX is a household name and is the oldest and most popular injectable product for reducing frown lines.

Dysport: Approved in 2009 by the FDA. Dysport may works slightly faster and possibly last longer, depending on the patient.

Xeomin: Approved in 2011 by the FDA, Xeomin is a “naked” neurotoxin. That is, Xeomin contains only a single ingredient (botulinum toxin A), while the formulation of Botox and Dysport contain various protective proteins clustered around the active molecule. The benefit of Xeomin’s pure-form means users have a lower chance of developing resistance (antibodies) that can limit its desired effects.

Jeuveau: Injected into muscles and used in adults for a short period of time (temporary) to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).
